Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
