The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 On an open record. 3 by the House inhabited 4 The roof raised high, 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
