The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
