The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
