He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
