Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
