And mention in the Book (the Quran, O Muhammad SAW, the story of) Maryam (Mary), when she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east. 16 out of her people's sight. I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah." 18 He replied: "I am only a messenger from your Lord (sent) to bestow a good son on you." 19 'How shall I bear a son' she answered, 'when I am not touched by a human and not unchaste' 20 He said, “So it is; your Lord has said, ‘This is easy for Me’; and in order that We make him a sign for mankind and a Mercy from Us; and this matter has been decreed.” 21 ۞ Thereupon she carried him, and retired to a far off place. 22 The pains of labour drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She said, "Oh, if only I had died before this and passed into oblivion!" 23 But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree): "Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee; 24 Shake the trunk of the date-palm tree, and it will drop ripe dates for you. 25 Eat therefore, and drink, and be comforted; and if thou shouldst see any mortal, say, "I have vowed to the All-merciful a fast, and today I will not speak to any man. 26 And in time she returned to her people, carrying the child with her. They said: "O Mary! Thou hast indeed done an amazing thing! 27 O sister of Aaron! Your father was not an evil man, nor was your mother an unchaste woman." 28 Thereupon she pointed towards the child; they said, “How can we speak to an infant who is in the cradle?” 29 [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. 30 He has blessed me no matter where I dwell, commanded me to worship Him and pay the religious tax for as long as I live. 31 And (hath made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant, unblest. 32 And peace be on me the day I was born and the day I die and the day I shall be raised up alive. 33 Such was (Prophet) Jesus, the son of Mary. A saying of truth, concerning what they doubt. 34 it does not befit the majesty of God that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! He is far above that: when He decrees something, He says only, "Be!" and it is. 35 Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord therefore worship Him. That is the Straight Path. 36 But parties from among them disagreed with each other, so woe to those who disbelieve, because of presence on a great day. 37 How plainly will they see and hear, the Day that they will appear before Us! but the unjust today are in error manifest! 38 Warn them of the woeful day when the final decree will be issued; they are neglectful and faithless. 39 Verily We! We shall inherit the earth and whatsoever is thereon: and unto Us they shall be returned. 40
