The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
