In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
