And they ask thee of Zul Qarnain. Say thou: I shall recite unto you of him some mention. 83 We established him in the land, and We gave him a way to everything; 84 and he followed a way 85 Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a People: We said: "O Zul-qarnain! (thou hast authority,) either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness." 86 He replied, "I shall punish the unjust ones among them and then they will return to their Lord, who will punish them more sternly". 87 As for he who believes and does good works he shall receive a fine reward in recompense and we shall speak to him with a mild command' 88 Then he followed a road 89 until he reached the rising of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for whom We provided no veil against it to shade them. 90 Thus was the state of those people, and We encompassed in knowledge all concerning Dhu al- Qarnayn. 91 He travelled 92 Till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying. 93 They said: "O Dhul-Qarnain! Verily! Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog) are doing great mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute in order that you might erect a barrier between us and them?" 94 He said: "That (wealth, authority and power) in which my Lord had established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier. 95 Bring me ingots of iron." Then after he had filled up the space between the two mountain-sides, he said: "(Light a fire) and ply bellows." When he had made it (red like) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour on it." 96 Thus (Gog and Magog) could neither climb over it nor dig a hole through (the rampart). 97 He said, 'This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into powder; and my Lord's promise is ever true.' 98 ۞ And on that day We shall release them in groups surging like waves one after another, and the Trumpet will be blown – so We shall gather them all together. (* Gog and Magog will come out during the time of Eisa (Jesus – when he comes back to earth) and cause great destruction in the land.) 99 Then We shall bring Hell right before the infidels 100 Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
