Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 "Now, behold, I am afraid of [what] my kinsfolk [will do] after I am gone, for my wife has always been barren. Bestow, then, upon me, out of Thy grace, the gift of a successor 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
