And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
