The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
