The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and shade extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
