He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
