The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
