The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
