۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15
