The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
