The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
