The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
