The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
