۞ He it is Who did create you from a single soul, and therefrom did make his mate that he might take rest in her. And when he covered her she bore a light burden, and she passed (unnoticed) with it, but when it became heavy they cried unto Allah, their Lord, saying: If thou givest unto us aright we shall be of the thankful. 189 But when He gives them a good one, they set up with Him associates in what He has given them; but high is Allah above what they associate (with Him). 190 Will they, then, ascribe divinity, side by side with Him, unto beings that cannot create anything since they themselves are created 191 And cannot provide any help to them, nor do they help themselves? 192 And if ye call them to the Guidance, they follow you not. Whether ye call them or are silent is all one for you. 193 Verily those whom ye call upon besides Allah are servants like unto you: Call upon them, and let them listen to your prayer, if ye are (indeed) truthful! 194 Have these [images,] perchance, feet on which they could walk? Or have they hands with which they could grasp? Or have they eyes with which they could see? Or have they ears with which they could hear? Say [O Prophet]: "Summon to your aid all those to whom you ascribe a share in God's divinity, and thereupon contrive [anything you may wish] against me, and give me no respite! 195 Surely my guardian is Allah, Who revealed the Book, and He befriends the good. 196 whereas all those whom you invoke in His stead are neither able to give you succour nor can succour themselves; 197 And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking at you while they do not see. 198 Take to forgiveness and enjoin good and turn aside from the ignorant. 199 And if a false imputation from the Shaitan afflict you, seek refuge in Allah; surely He is Hearing, Knowing. 200 Those who fear Allah, when a thought of evil from Satan assaults them, bring Allah to remembrance, when lo! they see (aright)! 201 As for their brethren [the Satans], they draw them deeper into error and do not relax in their efforts. 202 If you, (Muhammad), do not show them a miracle, they will keep on insisting that you must show them one. Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (Quran) contains wisdom for you from your Lord. It contains guidance and mercy for those who have faith. 203 When the Quran is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace, so that you may receive mercy. 204 And remember your Lord within yourself humbly and fearing and in a voice not loud in the morning and the evening and be not of the heedless ones. 205 Lo! those who are with thy Lord are not too proud to do Him service, but they praise Him and prostrate before Him. ۩ 206
