And a sign unto them is the dead land. We quicken it and thereout We bring forth grain, so that thereof they eat. 33 We have placed in it gardens of date palms and vines, and caused springs to gush [forth] from it, 34 so that they may eat of the fruit thereof, though it was not their hands that made it. Will they not, then, be grateful? 35 Hallowed be He who hath created all the pairs of that which the earth groweth, and of themselves and of that which they know not! 36 And a sign for them is the night. We remove from it [the light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness. 37 The sun, too, follows its determined course laid down for it by the Almighty, the All Knowing. 38 We have ordained phases for the moon until finally it becomes like an old date-stalk. 39 Neither does it lie in the sun's power to overtake the moon nor can the night outstrip the day. All glide along, each in its own orbit. 40 And a sign unto them is that We bear their offspring in a laden ship. 41 And We have created for them similar ships, in which they now ride. 42 And if We please, We can drown them, then there shall be no succorer for them, nor shall they be rescued 43 Unless by mercy from Us, and as a comfort for a while. 44 When it is said to such people: “Guard yourselves against what is ahead of you and what has preceded you that mercy be shown to you” (they pay scant heed to it). 45 And whenever a sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord, they always turn away from it! 46 And when it is said to them: Spend out of what Allah has given you, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Shall we feed him whom, if Allah please, He could feed? You are in naught but clear error. 47 The unbelievers say, "When will the Day of Judgment come if what you say is at all true?" 48 They wait not for aught but a single cry which will overtake them while they yet contend with one another. 49 Then they will not be able to make bequest, nor they will return to their family. 50
