۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
