Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Clear Book 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
