The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
