The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
