The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
