The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Beneficent Allah, 1 Taught the Quran. 2 has created man, 3 Taught him the mode of expression. 4 The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning, etc.). 5 and the stars and the trees bow themselves; 6 And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance 7 That ye should not trespass in respect of the balance. 8 but weigh things equitably and skimp not in the balance. 9 He set down the earth for the creation. 10 Therein are fruit and palm-trees with their dates in sheaths, 11 and grain growing tall on its stalks, and sweet-smelling plants. 12 Which of the bounties of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 13 He created man of fermented clay dried tinkling hard like earthen ware, 14 And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke: 15 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie 16 Lord of the two Easts, and Lord of the two Wests! 17 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 18 He has set flowing two seas that appear to meet. 19 With an interstice between them which they cannot cross. 20 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 21 Pearls and corals come from both. 22 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 23 And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains. 24 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 25
