He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
