Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
