Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
