The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
