And so the two went on their way, till [they reached the seashore; and] when they disembarked from the boat [that had ferried them across,] the sage made a hole in it - [whereupon Moses] exclaimed: "Hast thou made a hole in it in order to drown the people who may be [travelling] in it? Indeed, thou hast done a grievous thing!" 71 "Did I not tell you," he replied, "that you will not be able to bear with me?" 72 Moses said: "Rebuke me not for forgetting, nor grieve me by raising difficulties in my case." 73 So they departed; until, when they met a lad, he slew him. He said, 'What, hast thou slain a soul innocent, and that not to retaliate for a soul slain? Thou hast indeed done a horrible thing.' 74 ۞ 'Did I not tell you' he replied, 'that you would not be able to bear patiently with me' 75 (Moses) said: "If ever I ask thee about anything after this, keep me not in thy company: then wouldst thou have received (full) excuse from my side." 76 So they twain journeyed on till, when they came unto the folk of a certain township, they asked its folk for food, but they refused to make them guests. And they found therein a wall upon the point of falling into ruin, and he repaired it. (Moses) said: If thou hadst wished, thou couldst have taken payment for it. 77 He said: This is the parting between thee and me! I will announce unto thee the interpretation of that thou couldst not bear with patience. 78 "As for the ship, it belonged to Masakin (poor people) working in the sea. So I wished to make a defective damage in it, as there was a king after them who seized every ship by force. 79 "And as for that young man, his parents were [true] believers - whereas we had every reason to fear that he would bring bitter grief upon them by [his] overweening wickedness and denial of all truth: 80 and we desired that their Lord should grant them another in his place, a son more upright and more tender hearted. 81 As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and under it there was a treasure that belonged to them. Their father was a righteous man and your Lord intended that they should come of age and then bring forth their treasure as a mercy from your Lord; I did not do this of my own bidding. This is the true meaning of things with which you could not keep your patience." 82
