And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
