He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive and palm trees 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
