Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. 13 and full of piety towards his parents; and never was he haughty or rebellious. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
