The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 In a near land, and they, after being vanquished, shall overcome, 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless. 7 Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
