Nay, by the Moon 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 a warning to humans, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 in Gardens they will question 40 About the guilty: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
