And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 Would they hasten on Our doom? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn away from them for a while. 178 And wait, for they will soon see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
