Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
