Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
