The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
