The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
