The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches the skin; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
