He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
