The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
