The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
