Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
